Relaxation Massage

The therapeutic benefits of relaxation cannot be overstated. In our muscular health and our delicate hormonal chemistry, a state of relaxation enables the mindbody to act with greater biological efficiency. Honoring this most important aspect of our health, this service incorporates deeply soothing massage techniques along with soundscapes, hot towels and hot stones (at request) in order to promote a sense of warmth, to increase cardiovascular circulation, and to bring about a state of clear-headed, restful contentment.

Deep Tissue/Rehabilitative Massage

A substantial body of research indicates that athletes, physical performers, body builders, and those recovering from injuries and surgeries have much to gain from deep tissue massage therapy. This approach to massage is target-specific and goal oriented. Since it is often the case that muscle strain incurred in the athletic arena, and in life in general, can be at least partially attributed to the condition of an entirely separate region of the body, these sessions focus on not just rehabilitating strained, torn and inflamed tissues, but also restructuring the soft tissues of the body which can be the underlying cause of strain.

Myofascial Release

Fascia is the bodily connective tissue which occupies practically the entire internal environment of the body, at each degree of magnification. This anatomical structure is the subject of much recent attention and analysis, with implications for the field of massage therapy. Findings point to the great efficacy of long, static stretches for the dermal tissues— as they are entwined within and among the “superficial myofascial” tissue— in permanently impacting the elasticity and patterning of bodily tissues including scar tissue. Where these techniques are effective can be a boon to those recovering from surgery and injury. Gentle and prolonged traction of the limbs and shoulder can be a judicious and relieving first-approach to the body after an acute bout with, for instance a migraine headache.

Shiatsu/Acupressure

The Five Element Energetic Shiatsu massage school recognizes the body as a physical manifestation of a dynamic interplay between two energetic components: the 5 natural elements (earth, metal, water, wood, and fire) and yin and yang. The overlapping of these two constituent energetic patterns forms a kaleidoscopic hologram, manifested as the physical body. The energetic-physical connection is a two-way road, and so sustained and alternating compression is utilized in order to bring these energies into harmony.

Reflexology

A treatment focusing on the feet and ankles, and especially the soles of the feet. Relieving tension in one’s feet often carries an immense sense of comfort; this relief is often followed by a discernable sense of invigoration. The 40 and 60 minute reflexology treatment aims to promote the wellness of the entire individual, especially in the bodily tissues, with comfort and invigoration and with specific attention to the reflexive pathways throughout the feet, the body and the viscera. Several systems which map bodily correspondences with points along the foot are utilized to affect the client in a meaningful way. Treatment incorporates warm towels and aroma oils (both optional).
